This voluntary service association has taken its name from Nanni Moretti’s film which treats one of the most difficult mourning to accept: the untimely loss of a son. Precisely, this association’s name’s “La Stanza del Figlio” (The Son’s Room) and it began its activity in Pescara, in December 2002 with the aim to assist and sustain the difficult, psychological, human “journey” of those who have known the pain of such an upsetting loss.
The association intends to fill up an empty space in our community offering to parents afflicted by premature mourning a space where they can find themselves accepted and understood leaving out of consideration their social and economic status and their religious creed.
The “Son’s Room” is a place where everyone engages himself to help the other strengthening the consciousness that no one is alone and overcoming the sense of non belonging and social isolation. The association not only offers psychological support, but it has also decided to help to affirm in an incisive way the rights of the families struck by such a stern mourning and to modify some rules concerning the world of work which heavily weigh on those who have already suffered so much.
With regard to this aim we’re endeavouring to affirm the right to apply for a leave of 10 days instead of 3 days and, furthermore, to make it possible to apply for a 6 month’s period of temporary retirement so that these parents may feel better being accepted by a more human society which is able to understand the pain and to lend a helping hand.
